FCDO Engagement on civil society funding

25 Sep 2023

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office’s (FCDO’s) centrally managed civil society funding under UK Aid Direct, UK Aid Match and UK Aid Connect are coming to an end, so this is an opportunity for the FCDO to reshape its funding to be more equitable, more sustainable and to shift power to local communities.  The FCDO is reaching out to civil society, both in the UK and internationally, to hear from you about future partnerships and what forms of support are most useful for you over the mid- to longer term.

The FCDO have partnered with the West African Civil Society Institute (WACSI) and Bond, to lead a comprehensive engagement process. The engagement will take place between September and October 2023, with a report and recommendations being submitted to the FCDO in November 2023. The findings of the report will inform the FCDO’s consideration of the future of its centrally managed programming on civil society and civic space.

WACSI and Bond will be running engagement sessions for civil society organizations based in West Africa & MENA, Eastern Europe, East & Southern Africa, Central Asia and Indo Pacific and the UK. Please do share these with your partners and networks.

Please note that:

  • All of the sessions are taking place in English.
  • Places are limited to one person per organization.
  • All sessions will be capped at 50 people per event to ensure deeper conversations.
  • They will be interactive workshops, so please come ready to share your thoughts and ideas.

In the meantime, WACSI and Bond have designed a survey to be completed by individuals affiliated with local, national, and international organizations across a diverse range of regions, including Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, the Indo-Pacific, Eastern Europe, and the United Kingdom. The estimated time required to complete the survey is approximately 15 minutes.

To find out more about the process, see this engagement note which provides more details on the focus of the engagement.
